And dont mind the writing. I just let it rip here. There could be offensive content from time to time. I remembered the film 'Thank You for Smoking' when I read your argument - cool, logical and straight - like a Wills Navy Cut!!Amith PKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01785801065657572922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4809483340935764696.post-79093700977351199332013-01-20T11:11:20.489+05:302013-01-20T11:11:20.489+05:30@sh...
gratified by your comment. exactly the kind...@sh...
gratified by your comment. exactly the kind i was looking for.

there is a long list of members in my family who used to smoke but never 'moved up' to anything else. the point i was trying to make was more along the lines of i can smoke and drive, or fly a plane, or work without it compromising on the quality of output in any way. it
s not the same with alcohol/ drugs.

as far smoking in public places... im sure there are vegetarians who are not too happy to see posters of non-veg food outside. same when a guys eats non-veg and boards a bus... there is no choice for the vegetarian is there? he must 'adjust'.

your definition of a 'nuisance' is too narrow. if a guy smells bad... that isn't a nuisance. a nuisance is if he misbehaves with the public or he becomes a danger to people being under the influence.

i liked your last point on passive smoking. yes... you have a point there. but again... if there is someone who is bothering you tell him to buzz off. that's all. doesn't mean he can't smoke. he has the right to. some people don't mind hanging around with people who smoke. putting it simply as saying do you want to die soon... that's a stupid way to put it. the better question would be how are you living? are you in 'bliss'? life for me is not about 'not dying'. it's about living. living in the moment. interesting comment. im not sure if cigaret...@issam
interesting comment. im not sure if cigarette smoking really falls in the grey area. maybe it differs from person to person. but it's not like 'a crime' to smoke.
having said that... yes one need's to be tolerant. its not like my way is the right way and fuck everything else. that's bull fuck and will get nowhere. a certain kind of empathy is required. in any case. &q...Time to quote you and me rebellious...now !!!!

"Cigarettes are in some way better in the sense that the person doesn’t lose all control when he smokes". - It starts with a stick - then it grows to higher stuffs where you lose control so the word better is a mismatch here ....isn’t it?

And sorry to bring it on but can't help :
"if he becomes a menace/nuisance to society, then he needs to be stopped"
SMOKERS DON’T KNOW how they can ever become nuisance...they NEVER FEEL the same. Smoking in public areas, smoking in a bus stop or rly station, coffee/tea shops, parking areas, boarding ac buses after a puff causing the smoke and smell to linger inside that bus, smoking in juice junctions where all come for healthy drink, auto/car/bus drivers smoking, smoke in front of children (not yours may be), smoking in car while you are waiting for a signal and blowing the smoke out….smoke in office and talk to and force others to feel the smell of combination of a halls&cigarette..

The list is much more you can ever think of...as a smoker!!! All public smokers are already a nuisance - most insensitive, irresponsible!!

Ajai – in 2009 – we met first through this topic - http://triggered2blog.blogspot.com/2009/07/i-want-to-live-long.html

My message was the same now and then "I am not bothered if you smoke and die sooner, but I don’t want to die soon coz of you”
sh.....https://www.blogger.com/profile/18115189438240958425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4809483340935764696.post-4800458973748773242013-01-14T13:48:06.336+05:302013-01-14T13:48:06.336+05:30There was a time when I looked down upon this whol...There was a time when I looked down upon this whole act. My world then was black and white. I just didn't get why people did it and I sort of abhorred the ones who did it. To all my friends who indulged in it, I gave stern advise and sounded like the pastor fellow you mentioned in the post.
But with time, I have changed that outlook. People say I have stooped down but I am so much more comfortable in this viewpoint. I enjoy seeing people do things they like.
Now my view is more like what you sounded - if its a menace, behaviours require intervention. Else its nobody's business. So long as its done in moderation, I see absolutely no harm. Even if not so, then its completely up to the individual provided they are aware of the consequences.
I also feel that the new found shade of grey has greatly changed my viewing glass. It gives me a new perspective about everything. This is one thing that is dying down with the decisiveness which people tend to nowadays. All around simply want to vouch for their beliefs with absolute disdain for other's.
